Field Notes: A Local Gift, a Lasting Impact

Venison donation in Travelers Rest feeds families and fuels transformation

South Carolina Hunters for the Hungry exists to connect one of the state’s most enduring traditions—hunting—with one of its most urgent needs—feeding the hungry. And thanks to longtime supporter Tim Sorrell, that connection was reestablished in a powerful way once again.

This month, Tim delivered 192 pounds of fresh venison to Foothills Family Resources, a nonprofit based in northern Greenville County. It’s a place where crisis response and long-term empowerment go hand in hand. Serving the communities of Travelers Rest, Slater, Marietta, and Cleveland, the staff and partners of Foothills help individuals through urgent challenges—whether hunger, housing, or health—and then walk with them to build lasting stability. Through financial counseling, resume building, job training, and placement services, Foothills is transforming lives every day.

This generous donation means more than food. It’s dignity. It’s relief. It’s fuel for those working hard to rebuild.

This is the heart of our Field Notes series—real stories of real people, where the simple act of sharing meat becomes the catalyst for meaningful change.

We’re grateful to Tim for his commitment and to our friends at Foothills Family Resources for being a trusted partner on the ground. Together, we’re proving that one deer can feed more than a stomach—it can feed hope.
